For practitioners: eLearning and resources

The Guideline is primarily for practitioners who conduct assessments that may result in a clinical diagnosis of autism, but may be helpful, and is freely available to everyone. Watch the video included on this page to find out how the Guideline could benefit you.

Autism CRC has partnered with universities and professional organisations to deliver learning opportunities for implementing the National Guideline for the assessment and diagnosis of autism in Australia.

On this page, you will find an overview of each of the following learning opportunities and a link to enrolment providers currently available:

Assessment and diagnosis of autism in Australia: Short course

This course is ideal for practitioners interested in adopting a best-practice, evidence-based approach aligned with Guideline. The online self-paced course explores the Recommendations included within Guideline. It includes short practitioner insight videos to extend learning and a suite of downloadable resources to support implementing the Guideline into practice.

The first section provides foundational information aligned with three essential areas:

  • Introducing the National Guideline
  • Foundations of practice
  • Assessment and diagnosis process.

At the heart of the course is the ‘Guideline in Practice’ module which presents four hypothetical assessment and diagnostic case studies. Throughout this module, participants will find highlighted guideline Recommendations, community insights, and Good Practice Points.

The course fee is payable directly to the provider.

Microcredentials

Credit-bearing microcredentials are professional units of study that demonstrate your skills, knowledge and experience in a given subject area.  This suite of microcredentials will be of interest and value to a range of professionals and other stakeholders, such as allied health and medical professionals who may work with people who may be autistic and/ or who contribute to autism diagnostic assessments in the course of their practice. Professionals who work with and support children, adolescents and adults across settings (e.g., child health nurses, school counsellors, mental health practitioners, youth workers) may also be interested in this suite.

Developed by the Autism CRC, with The University of Western Australia (UWA), the following microcredentials are currently available for enrolment. Course fees are payable directly to UWA.
