The first unified approach to the assessment and diagnosis of
autism in Australia.
This Guideline provides an evidence-based framework through which practitioners can work effectively, safely and appropriately in conducting assessments for autism in Australia.
Recommendations reflect multiple converging sources of evidence from research, clinical practice, and the views and preferences of the autistic and autism communities.
All Recommendations are approved by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC). Registering will give you access to the complete Guideline document including all Recommendations and Good Practice Points.

the Implementation Toolkit, or jump ahead to registration.
You can read more information About the Guideline without registration. This section includes information about the development process, how to read and use the resources, and a list of Frequently Asked Questions.
Who is the Guideline for?
The Guideline defines best practice for practitioners who conduct assessments that may result in a clinical diagnosis of autism.
People with autistic characteristics, along with their families, partners or support people, can use this Guideline and accompanying resources to learn how to start, and what to anticipate, during an autism assessment. See our community summary pages for more information:
The Autism CRC has partnered with universities and professional organisations to provide educational opportunities aimed at helping practitioners effectively apply the Guideline in clinical settings. See our eLearning page for more information about short courses, microcredentials and more.
