Governance Program leading the way
The Sylvia Rodger Academy’s inaugural Governance Program is well underway with 14 participants from across Australia attending a 3.5 day residential workshop in Melbourne last month.
The Governance Program is the first national training program in corporate governance for autistic adults, enabling leadership in decision-making and capturing the strength of diverse thinking to make a broader contribution to the corporate and government sectors.
Through interactive online modules and online discussion, our participants learned theory such as director’s duties and responsibilities, risk and strategy and financial literacy. Coming together face-to-face in Melbourne with the autistic-majority project team and a number of Autism CRC Directors, participants had the opportunity to extend their knowledge, ask questions of board director panels and practice the skills for directorship.
One residential workshop participant said, “Thank you for the opportunity to participate in such a valuable, stimulating and enjoyable experience. All the hard work I know you and the team put in to make the residential a success definitely paid off. I can’t quite express how much I learnt and how much fun I had learning. Thank you.”
The participants will now complete the practical component of the Program. This will involve observing board meetings – that opportunity being generously provided by Autism CRC participant and partner organisations.
