Creation of the Australian Autism Biobank

The Australian Autism Biobank was created to increase our knowledge of the autism spectrum and co-occurring conditions. Almost 3,000 autistic and non-autistic children and adults participated from across Australia. From our participants we collected 4,500 biological samples, as well as behavioural and questionnaire data. Sample collection finished in June 2018 and Australia’s first autism biobank was launched in December 2018.

We would like to thank all our participants, who have contributed to positively transforming the lives of autistic people across the lifespan.

Researchers can now apply to use the materials for approved research purposes. Application information is available on the biobank website, along with answers to the mostly commonly asked questions.
